Storage & Yards

Why Photo Documentation Matters in Container Storage

When containers are stored at a yard, clear visual records protect everyone involved. Here’s why regular photo documentation is standard practice.

What good photo documentation includes

  • Time-stamped photos of the container on arrival (condition, seal, any visible damage)
  • Photos during storage (especially if the container is moved or worked on)
  • Photos at release / pickup (final condition before it leaves the yard)
  • Clear identification of the container number in the images

Why it matters

  • Dispute resolution — Photos help determine when and where damage occurred.
  • Insurance and claims — Strong visual evidence supports or defends claims.
  • Inventory accuracy — Regular checks with photos reduce “lost” or misplaced containers.
  • Customer transparency — Importers and brokers appreciate seeing the actual condition of their cargo while in storage.

Modern yards treat photo documentation as a standard part of responsible container storage, not an optional extra.
